What is curcumin?
Curcumin is a naturally occurring curcuminoid in the turmeric plant, which, according to scientific studies and the positive experiences of countless users, possesses a multitude of health benefits. The turmeric plant has been used for 2,500 years (some sources even cite 5,000 years) in traditional Chinese medicine and the Indian healing system of Ayurveda due to its positive effects on health.

Although modern science has been intensively studying the numerous medicinal properties of the turmeric plant and its primary active ingredient curcumin for about 50 years, curcumin supplements have only gained steadily increasing attention in the Western world in recent years.

When you consider the multitude of health benefits of curcumin, ranging from a strong antioxidant effect and relief from digestive problems by promoting healthy digestion, to an improvement in immune system function and anti-inflammatory effects, to anti-cancer effects that can prevent cancer and help in the treatment of cancer, it quickly becomes clear that every health-conscious person can benefit from curcumin supplementation.

What distinguishes GN Laboratories Curcumin Plus from other curcumin products ?
The dried and powdered root of the turmeric plant contains only 2 to 8% of the active ingredients known as curcuminoids, which include curcumin. Many curcumin products on the market consist solely of turmeric powder with such a low curcumin concentration that you cannot realistically expect to benefit from its health advantages. Even with products that advertise containing turmeric extracts with a higher curcumin content, you should pay close attention to the curcumin level to which these products are standardized. Many manufacturers use turmeric extracts with a relatively low curcumin content because they are simply much cheaper to purchase.

If you're familiar with GN Laboratories, you'll know that we never skimp on the raw materials for our products – and GN Laboratories Curcumin Plus is no exception. We use only the highest quality 50:1 turmeric extract, standardized to 95% curcuminoids. You won't find a higher curcumin concentration in any other product!

But what good is the best turmeric extract with the highest curcumin content if the body can't properly utilize the active ingredients? When taken orally, most of the curcumin is destroyed during the so-called first pass through the liver, meaning that only a small fraction of the total amount ingested reaches the body intact to work its magic.

Well, we wouldn't be GN Laboratories if we hadn't found a solution. Scientific studies have shown that piperine, a component of black pepper, is able to effectively prevent the breakdown of curcumin in the liver. The effect of piperine is so potent that the bioavailability of curcumin can be increased by 2000% (no, that's not a typo!) when taken in conjunction with piperine. And as you've probably already guessed, GN Laboratories Curcumin Plus therefore contains an effective dose of a highly concentrated piperine extract.

What health benefits does GN Laboratories Curcumin Plus offer?
The health benefits of curcumin are so diverse that we can only discuss the most important and interesting ones here, as a detailed description of all the positive properties of curcumin could easily fill an entire book.
Anti-inflammatory effects and relief from joint problems
Curcumin possesses pronounced anti-inflammatory effects, which are based, among other things, on a reduction in the production of the body's own pro-inflammatory cytokines and prostaglandins and on the inhibition of the enzymes cyclooxygenase-2, lipoxygenase, and NO synthase (2). In addition, curcumin blocks a protein responsible for pain. These anti-inflammatory and analgesic properties can help to alleviate joint pain and osteoarthritis with regular curcumin intake (3).

Relief from digestive problems and promotion of healthy digestion
Curcumin stimulates both the production of gastric juices and the production and secretion of bile acids. The increased secretion of bile acids promotes, among other things, fat digestion and raises the pH level in the intestines, thus promoting better and more active digestion. This can alleviate symptoms such as bloating, gas, constipation, and other digestive discomfort after consuming fatty foods.

Pronounced anti-cancer effect
A number of scientific studies have demonstrated that curcumin can both protect against the development of cancer and help fight cancer (4). Curcumin strengthens cell membranes, making them less susceptible to pathogens and carcinogenic substances. In addition, curcumin actively inhibits tumor growth and the development of metastases by preventing the division of cancer cells.

Strong antioxidant effect
Curcumin is a powerful antioxidant that can protect the body's cells from the damaging effects of free radicals (2). In addition, these unique antioxidant properties are partly responsible for the previously described relief of joint pain and the cancer-inhibiting effects of curcumin.

Promoting bone health
Curcumin inhibits the development of osteoclasts, which are responsible for the breakdown of bone tissue. This has been shown in studies to demonstrably reduce bone loss and the resulting decrease in bone density (5).

Promoting healthy blood sugar levels and reducing the risk of diabetes
Curcumin can lower elevated blood sugar levels and significantly reduce the risk of developing type 2 diabetes in people with insulin resistance. In a study conducted with insulin-resistant, prediabetic subjects, curcumin was able to improve insulin resistance and effectively prevent the development of diabetes (6). This effect is based, among other things, on curcumin's ability to stimulate the beta cells of the pancreas, which are responsible for insulin production.

Lowering cholesterol and triglyceride levels
Scientific studies have shown that curcumin can reduce the rise in cholesterol levels after a high-fat meal by up to 20%. Furthermore, a seven-day course of curcumin was sufficient to significantly lower cholesterol and triglyceride levels in test subjects (7).

Protection of the liver from harmful effects of alcohol and medications
For people who need to take medication and athletes who use performance-enhancing substances that put a strain on the liver, it may be of interest that curcumin can effectively protect the liver from the harmful effects of alcohol and medications. These effects are so pronounced that curcumin can even alleviate hepatitis caused by a paracetamol overdose and prevent liver cell death (8).

What are you waiting for? Do something good for your health by taking GN Laboratories Curcumin Plus!
As you can see, the health benefits of curcumin are more than impressive – and the list above is just a brief overview of some of the most interesting advantages. Since curcumin is generally well-tolerated, apart from rare digestive issues in people with sensitive gastrointestinal tracts, no unwanted side effects are to be expected. So you really have nothing to lose by supplementing your diet with regular intake of GN Laboratories Curcumin Plus.
